Okay, so there are talks of reinstating the national 55MPH speed limit from the “oil shortage” era. Yes, it would save gas, but what the fuck?? For one, we’d be trading money saved from less gasoline consumption for the cost of enforcement. I have no numbers on anything here, I’m shooting from the hip, and I don’t give a fuck. If you want stats and a bibliography, go out and get them.

Better than a national speed limit, IMO, would be to enforce fuel consumption regulations. With the technology we have today, we shouldn’t be building engines that make tons and tons of horsepower. We should be building more fuel efficinet machines. What is the point of having a 300hp Subaru? Sure, it would be fun to drive. But you can’t even USE 300+hp safely on public roads. And you sure as hell don’t need it. My little Protege makes only 130hp and it easily is fast enough to be dangerous. And say we impose the 55mph limit. Why would you need an insane amount of horsepower if you can only legally drive 55? Oh yeah, you wouldn’t.

We haven’t complained about this enough. A 98 Ford Explorer for example gets about 14-15 MPG in town. BOLLOCKS! That is a small SUV, mostly used to haul kids. And Ford sells a shit-ton of them. They ought to be fined for making a rig that can’t get 20MPG. It doesn’t need to be able to tow a house, it needs to be fuel efficient. And Ford can make those gigantic pickups of theirs get about the same mileage. And they are much more powerful. So what the fuck?

Hybrid (gas engine + electric motor) technology is actually doing both for us, making power, and saving gas. The new hybrid Accord will get something like 30MPG in town. While still making more horsepower than the gas-only version. And the gas-only version only gets like 20MPG. SO let’s mandate the shit.

I know, I know, we can;t mandate it, because the politicians are fed by the oil industry. So that could be a while. It’s also exactly why we haven’t worked on efficiency. And why Americans have been convinced they need the biggest, gas sucking-est, earth-murdering SUV they can get their hands on.

This just drives me nuts. We are targeting the wrong parts of the problem. Much like the War on Drugs. Or the War on Terror. Or public school funding. Or…

a response to lolo’s closer again to utter dissapointment.

okay, I hear you. Especially the last thing, first three (light) last three (dark).

I am SERIOUSLY hoping that the new film can make up for the last two. I’m an Empire Strikes Back person, and I want that goodness back. I want to see the hardcore cowboy story come back.

The best part about the newest two, Menace and Clones, was that Jar Jar (endub pukes into his lap) really caused the rise of the Empire. Padme handed off the power. cringe.

Man, i am a little too “on the sauce” to get my point out here. Not that I remember what the was. :)

fuck…..i’m losing it. I will get back in it tomorrow.

You look just like Shmi.

I just read Dig’s quick post about Dubya’s press conference. And I must respond to the “tyrants” reference:

Man, to watch him (bush) just freestyle, since he definately seems to be saying right what comes to his mind first, especially with regard to North Korea, is terrifying. It’s caustic language, and he just sounds like a total cock as he lets loose his opinion. I’m not one that loves that North Lorea has nuclear capabilites. Of course, I don’t love that the US does, either.

I’m not looking for Cold War II. Nor am I content with the “we can shoot his missles down” scenario. Let’s please, please try to live like this is the only place we have to live. Don’t provoke the opposition. No nuclear weapons. They just aren’t a good idea. Doomdsay scenarios don’t sit well with me. I’d like my children’s children to have children. I’d like that for anyone who wants it. I know that is very unlikely, what with overpopulation and all, but now that I’ve experienced it, I know why we’re here.

I can’t imagine having Dubya’s disposition about conflict now that I’ve had a child. It really does change everything. But he has children, and he seems to think that as long as they get through their lives, everyone will be alright. It’s just fucking shortsighted. We really need to start thinking about the interconnection of all the people on the earth….about living together for a common good. I don’t think we all have to agree to make that happen. But we certainly all have to step down a notch or twenty-five, and think about our neighbors. Think about our neighbor’s neighbors. and on, and on….

so yeah, this may be a bunch of hippie idealism, but please. If we, as the earth’s population, don’t step back and evaluate our current situation…and continue to live propagating fear, we won’t continue for long.

so, if I could figure out how the fuck to change the color of the sides of this theme, I’d be posting my new header image. But no. I can find no code and no image that makes any sense of this color. ANd what’s with three-digit HTML colors? I don’t know shit about those, and I’ve built some pretty serious websites. So, this theme may have to go. I did finally figure out how to get rid of the damn gradient shit that was in the main frame, it was an image that I made completely white. But I’m STILL not seeing how to change that color. And you know how much fucking time I’ve spent on this shit. You’ve logged similar hours.

damn. well anyway, I have tomorrow off, so I plan to spend my day playing with jeannie&delaney, and getting this shit ill.

No, not the boat. Boot times. I am reconfiguring my office’s WiFi setup, to try to get OS X clients to be able to correctly network over wireless. While that sonds like it should be easy, especially since OS X filesharing now prefers TCP/IP, it is kindof a bitch. And I haven’t cared much about it until now, since I have enough time to fuck around with it.

Anyway, my office is currently filled with laptops, so that I can reconfigure them to work with the new setup. I have a Sony Vaio S380, A IBM ThinkPad T30, a Compaq Evo N115, and a PowerBook G4. I had to reboot the PowerBook and the Compaq at the same time, and surprisingly, the PowerBook because usable first. Strange, no? Since Macs always seem to take FOREVER to boot?

The Compaq is mine, XP SP2, Athlon 4 1.8GHz. 512MB RAM. BootVis optimized regularly.

The PowerBook, also mine, OS X 10.3.8, G4 667Mhz, 1GB RAM. WAY slower than the Athlon. But it boots first. I just can hardly believe it. I’m going to defrag and run BootVis over lunchtime to see if I can get XP to get there first.

I know that the Vaio would beat the Powerbook, it’s brand new and has nothing installed.
