jungle/hardcore with drums/bass/guitar
I have an ambition. To be a part of a jungle band. Like serious hardcore d+b with your standard band setup. I three piece, ideally. It would take some delay pedals, for sure, and excellent control of them. I’d love to be able to loop drum pieces even. I don’t know exactly how; there’s always triggering and sampling and all that, but I’m talking the sound of live drums, playing beats for a while and then cutting them up in loops, for that ‘nobody’s limbs actually move that fast’ hardcore touch. I keep programming 2 and 4 measure sets of jungle beats, and then trying to rip out synth-stylee guitar parts, but I’ve yet to break into the delays and shit. I’m writing some stuff I really like, but I want to hear a band do it. I’d love to hear my band do it, though I think that’s a little off the mark that the other guys are shooting for. Not that any two of us are really shooting at the same mark. go figure.
It could be so wild though. Somehow, I’m going to put together something that touches on this, so maybe someone else could understand the sound I’m looking for. It’s not something I’ve heard anyone do well; usually attempts at electronic music with a traditional rock lineup end up sucking fiercely. Take Linkin Park for example. There’s mad production, to cut up and put an edge on rather worn out crappy riffs, but it sucks completely. I can hear the producers trying to fuse electronic and rock music, but the plane just steers itself into the ground. I’d like to stay away from that.
blogging with a buzz. hahaha
Dave Grohl could help me here. He’d be an excellent drummer in the lineup. I’d figure him to be into the sound, too. The bass player would be much tougher to source. I’d like an aggressive punk rock stlye fused with a Soul Coughing feel. Soul Coughing-stylee but not on a stand-up. I can think of no one who plays like that though.
Anyhow, someday, I’m telling you, you’ll hear me put this together, and you’re gonna think it’s cool.

Dave Grohl was a sweet drummer. i was always pissed that he played guitar for Foo Fighters. His drumming on Territorial Pissings rules.
Jeebs. it’s 5:20 am and i’m drunk. Woohoo!

Dude…Dave Grohl was the entire Foo Fighters for the first album. And the way I look at it, if he allowed someone else to do the drumming, the guy must be pretty good.

The first album absolutely rules. All of them are awesome, but the first one rules. On the Dave Grohl as drummer tip, pick up Queens of the Stone Age’s “Songs for the Deaf”. Awesome stoner-rock album, whether or not you’ve previously been a fan of QOTSA or Kyuss, the stoner-rock band of which Queens is an off-shoot. If you’re too cool to listen to Songs for the Deaf because it was on MTV (solely by virtue of Grohl, IMHO), pick up their self-titled 1998 album. While it doesn’t have Grohl, it kicks supreme ass.

I can’t remember what I was listening to at the time, but I was really desensitized for some reason, and when I heard the first Foo Fighters album my first reaction was that it was so mellow my mom would probably like it more than me.
Then again, the same thought also crossed my mind with Live Through This by Hole…so I don’t know…I guess all that LSD had some strange effects on my reasoning back then.
