And therein lies the irony: it's thanks to our collective brain that we have developed technology to allow us to thrive in the situations we have manifested for ourselves on Earth. It's also in spite of our same brain that we were ever able to create the situations that have put our existence in peril in the first place.

Darwin truly is rolling over in his coffin. Humans have managed to survive in the face of a dynamic environment in spite of our evolutionary handicaps because of our one advantage: our brains. Thanks to our brains, we've invented technologies that have allowed us to thrive and become the dominant species on Earth in spite of the fact that we aren't the fastest or most naturally-equipped predators.

In the wild, humans would be food.

But I digress. Our technology has enabled us to thrive by altering our environment to suit our needs, rather than adapting to the environment or dying out (a subject you're touching on here). The thing is, we can't maintain this forever: there has to be a backlash, and the longer the wait, the greater the weight. You can't fight evolution, you can't fight nature forever.

As long as we continue to use our technology in such blatantly irresponsible ways, we will be the architects of our own destruction.
