Is It 5:30 p.m. August 3rd 2005, yet?

I’m getting pretty excited for my summer trip to Oregon. I still don’t have many plans for what I’m going to do there…but I never do, and it always seems to turn out fun.

Items of Interest:

  • Clublife - My new favorite blog. I don’t know why, but I really can’t stop reading it. It’s just too funny.
  • The Derrick Jensen Reading Club - do yourself and Derrick a favor and subscribe to it. I signed up for a year subscription some time ago, and it’s totally awesome. You can read all the books as Derrick works on them. He just uploads all the drafts in MS Word format. Truly a great service. Thanks Derrick.
  • BendBlogs - Central Oregon Bloggers. Endub’s blog got picked up by them, which is fairly cool. I wish I still lived in Bend so my blog could be linked too! Come on guys! I’m still a Bend kid at heart!
  • Natalee Holloway - I know I posted this already, but it’s still too awesome. The comments in those two articles are just too great. I engaged in a rather lengthy (but in no way record setting) argument in one of them with a douche bag who thinks she was “asking” for whatever happened to her, putting forth the same tired misogynistic argument that “sluts get what’s coming to them”, that most rapists try to use. Scum bags.
  • Envy the Rain - a rather touching book written Jamie Boud, the author of The Known Universe. I finished reading it a few weeks back, and it was quite good. It’s a quick read - I blew through it in about a day and a half. I don’t really know how much of it is autobiographical, but I suspect there’s at least a rather large kernel of truth in the heart of the story. Anyway, it may just be me, but considering what I’d gone through in the few months before I read it, I found myself very closely identifying with the lead character, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyway…buy it and support independent writers or something. His blog is really good too.
  • Anyway…the summer is going really well. Last weekend I spent Friday night and all day Saturday hanging out next to S’ven’s cousin’s pool. It was hot as hell out, and the pool really made the weekend not suck. The best part was that on Saturday, we went to the grocery store to get food and more beer, and I scored a 1.5 lb fresh tuna steak for 7 cents. Yes, I wrote it out long style because it was actually only 7 cents, instead of 11.99/lb as it was supposed to be. The clerk in the fish department screwed up, and totally made my day. Damn was it good.

Unfortunately, the suck part of the day came later when I went home at 9:00 pm to try and recover before I had to pick up Dimitri at the airport at 11:00pm. (There was a lot of recovering that needed to be done…hehe.) Unfortunately, that meant I missed the festivities at the pool, which wasn’t that big a deal to me. But what really sucks is that his flight was delayed and didn’t arrive until 2:00am. By the time 2:00am rolled around, I was standing outside the airport, visibly shaking from the caffeine necessary to stay awake, eyes bloodshot from 2 days and countless beers in the sun, and very unhappy to be there. He finally arrived, and at about 2:45 when his luggage was finally unloaded, we hopped in the civic, cranked Jay-Z Unplugged up really loud (a great album, BTW)…and took off.

There is some terribly, terribly lame stuff going on at work. I’m not in a position that I’ll lose my job anytime soon, but rather I may *WANT* to lose my job since it’s about to get so freaking lame. I’m not really going to say anything more than that, because I would hate to be one of those bloggers who gets fired for talking shit about their job. But I’ll just say that some people are making some seriously grave decisions. Think about Ghostbusters, and how the Ghostbusters implore that pencil necked paper pusher guy not to shut down the containment system, and he does it anyway. It’s like that…and I’m one of the Ghostbusters.

i just started looking through those k5 articles. dear god, i can’t believe i’ve waited so long, this is some hilarious shit. i love how good the k5ers are at whipping people into a homicidal frenzy. i find it absolutely perfect how poorly written the hate mail is, it’s like every trailer park in the country discovered the existence of k5 and felt the dire need to express themselves. my particular favorites:

The “person” who wrote the “Fuck Natalee Holloway” story is a waste of human skin and bones…I hope and pray that someone in their family gets chopped into timy peices and left on their doorstep so they can smell the rotting flesh of a loved one…better yet, I hope they die today.

Wishing the worst for you and your shitty website…

I am writing to inform you that i find your website, specifically the “fuck natalee holloway” piece, unacceptable. I request that you remove this horrible travesty at once, as it is an affront to decent people everywhere and totally unprotected by the first amendment. I am so disgusted, I do not have the words to tell you what a low opinion I have of you for allowing this garbage. I think a formal complaint to the FCC and other legal authorities is in order.

addendum: why do dumbasses never realize that the plural form of bias is biased NOT bias.
