Poor Tony Blair. I really liked him when he was first elected. I mean, clearly almost anyone would have been better than Thatcher, but he seemed like an OK guy. In fact, he still seems like an OK guy, which makes me feel worse for him getting all caught up in the mess our administration has chosen to make of the world.
Now I don’t let him off the hook entirely, he still went right along with it all. But he didn’t really have any choice, such is the fate of lapdogs and all. At least until the time the E.U. starts to overtake the U.S. and the Euro becomes the trading standard and the U.S. collapses…but hey, that’s probably a few years off still.
This is particuarly bad for Blair though. See, in England, their press is still “free”. Not completely free mind you, but it at least tries to make itself look vaguely free. And one of the ways it does that is by printing articles that are actually critical of the government when they do massively illegal things like violating international law by invading a sovereign nation without the agreement of the U.N. It’s a nice trick, one I wish our own media would try out. Sure, we can rail on and on about a blowjob, but even mentioning that it might be worth considering how terribly illegal unprovoked invasions are get’s you the “Osama Eyes” from people, like you’re about to pull out a box cutter and start a jihad right there.
All I can hope is that some of the flack comes back on our Administration. Certainly we won’t hear about it here, but if the brits knew it was an illegal war, we must have known too. (Of course, we just don’t care about such things.)
It’s really amazing how much we let our government get away with, and how short our memories are. I mean, looking back over TV footage of interviews with Cheney and Bush and Rumsfeld leading up to the war is an exercise in frustration. They tell one lie, then completely contradict it, get called out on it, and deny ever saying either thing in the first place. They talk about mushroom clouds, then about how they never said nukes, they said chemical and biological weapons…Grrr..it’s so disgusting.
Anyway…I don’t know where I’m going with this. But it’s always nice to read news that reminds you that you aren’t crazy; the rest of the world knows our administration is out to a very evil lunch as well.
